Campuses

Colchester:

Home to 15,000 students from more than 130 countries, our Colchester Campus is the largest of our three sites, making us one of the most internationally diverse campuses on the planet - we like to think of ourselves as the world in one place.
The Campus is set within 200 acres of beautiful parkland, located two miles from the historic town centre of Colchester – England's oldest recorded town. The campus squares are always buzzing with life. With shops, a bustling street market, restaurants, bars, a theatre, a cinema, hairdressers, a gym and even a nightclub;it's possible to survive your time at Essex without ever actually leaving campus (not something we recommend, but you get the idea...). Our Colchester Campus is also easily reached from London and Stansted Airport in under one hour.

Southend:

Our Southend Campus is based in the heart of this vibrant and modern seaside town. With its lively, state-of-the-art facilities and a close-knit international community, Southend is the perfect environment for living and learning.
If you're joining our School of Health and Social Care, East 15 Acting School, Department of Psychosocial and Psychoanalytic Studies, or Essex Business School, you may well be studying at our Southend Campus.
Famous for its beach resort and pier, Southend-on-Sea stretches along seven miles of award-winning coastline, providing plenty of opportunities for a wide range of water sports and leisure activities.

Loughton:

Studying at East 15 Acting School in Loughton isn’t your average student experience.
You’ll be in intensive training at one of the most prestigious and internationally respected conservatoires in the country, gaining the skills and knowledge necessary to pursue a career in the performing arts. But fear not! It’s not all work and no play at East 15 Acting School in Loughton.

Student lifestyle

There are over 165 sports clubs and societies in our Students' Union across the arts, hobbies, cultural, departmental and many more. Whether your an avid athlete or want to try a new sport there's something for everyone including our on campus gym and climbing wall.

Colchester Campus is just two miles away from the main town centre of Colchester. There's so much to see and do while you're here - from arts and culture to water sports, Colchester Zoo, vintage shopping to high tea in country estates, and the hottest gigs to ghost walks - the hardest bit will be fitting it all in.

The SU's new social venue, the SU Lounge, is fully run and owned by students and is the ideal place to catch up with friends. This is your home-from-home, for studying, grabbing a coffee and a snack, playing Xbox or Playstation, or just hanging out between classes.

Southend has been awarded a prestigious purple flag award for our amazing nights out. With great comedy nights, seafront pubs, shows, bars and clubs;the Southend nightlife is hard to beat. The Essex seaside town, Southend-on-Sea runs along the South East coast of England, connecting the Thames estuary to the North Sea. Southend is renowned for its landmark pier – the longest of its kind in the world, its award-winning beaches, and its illuminated nightlife. The town also has its own airport, and a train ride to London takes less than one hour.

Loughton campus is bordered by London’s largest open space, Epping Forest, which is just a stone’s throw away from Loughton. If you’re not afraid to get muddy, grab a mountain bike, or saddle up and try horse-riding. Alternatively, take a gentle walk throughout the 6,000 acres of beautiful, ancient woodland, and see what rare wildlife you can spot. Are the bright lights of the city calling you? Hop on the Central line from Debden underground station (just a five-minute walk from campus), and within half an hour you can be amongst the buzz, excitement, and rich cultural diversity of central London.

We think you’ll agree that Loughton has the best of both worlds.

I was interested in continental philosophy and when I researched the Essex philosophy department I recognised a couple of the members of faculty from books I had read. I then learnt that Essex was ranked no.1 in the country for continental philosophy which was the main reason I chose Essex over the London universities. Making great friends and ...

I chose to go to Essex because of the University’s strong reputation and international profile. I study International Relations, so it was important for me to choose a university where I could get the opportunity to meet people from around the world. My experience at the University of Essex has exceeded all expectations, mainly because of all th...

If you’re applying to East 15 from Finland I can recommend the course for sure. I would tell you that it's probably quite different to the acting courses at universities in Finland because in East 15 there is a real sense of community. In the end it's all about what you take from the course and the people you share your time with. But in East 15...
